Glen, you are correct - from my following of this Board the last few months, this seems to be always the case :D

The list of Machins at the top of Ian's list have both security slits and non-soakable gum. I think Ian's point was that the "non-soakability" issue extends beyond the machins with security slits, to the range of other stamps he lists (which don't have the slits).

Well, that's a blast from the past :!:

You're right, but soakability is nothing to do with the security slits but with the gum, or lack of a water-soluble layer between gum and paper. gillamo is right. And of course there have been many more since then.

Oh, and if anyone has intact, contemporary commercial postal articles bearing Machin £1.33 or £1.41 please post scans here. I'm a buyer; paying a premium over used price.

Although it's drifted this was actually supposed to be a thread about non-soakability.

This is a thread for Machin covers http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=16700&hilit=machins+cover "Machin and Country definitives on cover".

There are a few! I have the URLs for these threads (and many of the Australia ones) copied to a dashboard list - using bookmarks is so old hat!

Can you show?

I'm not aware of "dashboard"

I use http://www.protopage.com and the Mac's own dashboard which is a screen with multiple widgets on including many stickies.

Protopage is a webpage by which you can create public and private pages.

This one shows some Stampboards threads indexed - http://www.protopage.com/ian-norvic#My_public_category/Stampboards_Indexes - Just click on the title and Stampboards will pop up on that thread in a new tab/window

And if you make your own protopage and any of these sticky-links just send me an email and I'll send you the HTML code.

I don't use it as an add-on in Firefox, just as a webpage. It's my home-page tab, followed by our website from my HD, gmail, and then Stampboards, eBay, and BBC Radio 4extra on 6 tabs. Currently have 9 tabs open!

Here's the Protopage getting stated page - http://www.protopage.com/

To new collectors / non collectors I ask for the postmark as well. Decent margins then.

Of course, I'm on the "leave on paper" camp for the newer stuff but especially the GB Machins if ever I can get my hands (tweezers/tongs) on them.

I'm just glad that it is at least now being discussed.
5tamper - I'll swap some aussie for machins. First Big Goal down the track - get 100,000 people collecting
Simplified Australia then ... No I didn't get any 2016 Adelaide CPS - only just got my first from 1994.
